Faculty Development at DMU: Enhancing Research Capacity through Effective Grant Writing
Dubai Medical University (DMU) hosted an insightful Faculty Development Session titled “Effective Grant Writing” on Thursday, 29th May 2025. The session was attended by faculty members from across the university’s colleges and was delivered by Dr. Hanan Anbar, Associate Professor in the College of Pharmacy and Chair of the Institutional Review Board at DMU.
The session offered a comprehensive overview of grant writing essentials and shared practical strategies to help faculty successfully secure research funding. Key areas covered included:
- Clearly defining research objectives and aligning them with funding priorities
- Demonstrating the significance and potential impact of the proposed work
- Structuring a persuasive, logically organized narrative
- Developing realistic timelines and detailed budgets
- Addressing reviewers’ expectations and avoiding common pitfalls
Dr. Hanan conducted this session following her participation in a specialized workshop organized by CLICKS on Thursday, 1st May 2025. She thoughtfully integrated both her own grant writing experience and the key takeaways from the workshop to empower DMU faculty in their future grant applications. This effort also supported the directives and guidance of Prof. Sherief Khalifa, DMU Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Pharmacy, in enhancing research productivity, securing competitive funding, building research capacity, and fostering a culture of scholarly excellence across the university.
